ABOUT THE MUSICIANS
Widely recognized as one of the leading tango ensembles of our time, the Pedro Giraudo Tango Quartet follows in the innovative footsteps of Astor Piazzolla, crafting music that is both reverent of tradition and boldly original. Their performances are a vibrant fusion of virtuosic technique and emotional depth, intertwining the intensity of Argentine tango, the sophistication of European classical music, and the improvisational spirit of jazz. The result is a unique and electrifying sound that resonates with audiences around the world.
Based in New York City, the quartet has graced prestigious stages such as Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, BAM, the Met Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum, and has been featured at festivals including the Austin Chamber Music Festival, Chamber Music Raleigh, the Moab Music Festival, the Arizona Music Festival, and the Montana Folk Festival. They have led workshops at Dartmouth College, the University of Maryland, and the University of Arizona, inspiring the next generation of musicians and tango enthusiasts alike.
Argentinian-Armenian-American violinist Sami Merdinian is known for his versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and tango artist. He is concertmaster of the Greenwich Symphony and co-concertmaster of The Orchestra San Antonio, and has held leadership positions with the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke's, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with the Montevideo Philharmonic, the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Highly sought after as a tango violinist, he received a Grammy nomination for Masters of the Bandoneon. He is also cofounder and executive director of the New Docta International Music Festival.
Cuban-born pianist, composer, and conductor Ahmed Alom moves fluidly between concert halls and jazz clubs, between Bach and Afro-Cuban rhythm. His works have been premiered by Yuja Wang with the New York Philharmonic, and in summer 2026 he conducted the world premiere of his Piano Concerto, written for Yuja Wang and People of Earth. As a soloist, he has performed with the Baltimore, Indianapolis, and Kansas City Symphonies and the New World Symphony. He became Artistic Director of the Washington Square Music Festival in 2024, co-founded the brass ensemble Triple Cortado, and is a Yamaha Artist. His solo debut album is Exilio.
Multi-instrumentalist Loïc Da Silva began his musical journey at the age of nine. Starting with the accordion, he taught himself to play bandoneon, piano, classical guitar, Portuguese guitar, Brazilian percussion, drums, and bass. At 18, he embarked on a professional career that has led to collaborations with artists from all walks of life, including Cyrille Aimée, Juana Luna, Pedro Giraudo, Marcel Loeffler, Jaime Lozano, Michael Pipoquinha, Ben l'Oncle Soul, and Mario Canonge.
Latin Grammy Award-winning bassist and composer Pedro Giraudo is among the most compelling tango artists today. After winning Best Tango Album for Vigor Tanguero in 2018, he continues to lead acclaimed ensembles that blend classical forms, Argentine folk, and jazz improvisation. He has collaborated with Pablo Ziegler, Paquito D'Rivera, Branford Marsalis, and Regina Carter, recorded bass on Rubén Blades' Grammy-winning album Tangos, and performed with the New York Philharmonic and New York City Ballet. His music has been presented at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Blue Note, and the Kennedy Center.
